Last week I posted that we got Wesley a dog for therapy purposes. His therapist says that she is a strong believer in this method of therapy, and really thinks that it will help. We are in the midst of training our cute little black lab baby, and she has already become and important member of our family. If you have any more questions about the use of therapy dogs with autistic children, here is a great link that I found when I was researching the subject. Have a great week, and I will post again very soon!

That is so cool for your son to develop a special relationship with his dog. I saw a program last night on TV about pairing up animals with children and teens with disabilities, including physical disabilities. It was awesome. How did you go about choosing a puppy?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think I watched that program too. I actually researched what kind of dogs would be best, and found out that labs and retreivers are usually the best dogs for this purpose. It just so happened that my sister had a litter of black lab puppies at the time, so I wagered a deal with her, and got one of her babies. So far I think it is workingout well. we are in the process of both potty trianing and obedience training her right now, so it has been fun, and just about as much work as the kids! But hopefully in the end it will all be worth it. Thanks for the comment!
